IT HAS to be this way.
They will hate you.
Get over it. Accept it. There’s no way around it.
For being good, for being happy, for being united, for having peace… for loving God.
They will hate you for it. Resentment and anger… seethe in their eyes.
Or they can’t even look at you. They turn away.
And it will hurt. It will cut you straight to the heart
…and tempt you to run away.
You’ll want to give it all up and slide back on your convictions. You’ll want to buy the lie that the whole world should love you. You’ll be afraid and think, “Why do they want to hurt me? How can this be? Is this what it means to walk with the Lord? Do I really want this?”
Here’s what you must do. Rest in Christ alone. Go to him and be filled by his Spirit.
Only he can soothe your soul. Otherwise you’ll become bitter. You’ll harden your heart. Only God can give you a heart of flesh. A strong heart. A heart that feels and bleeds. A heart that lives and loves.
And for those who hate you… pray for them. Forgive them. Serve them. Love them.
Proclaim the Gospel!
Do this until it breaks your heart. Until you realize again and again that you too don’t deserve God’s mercy, but he gives it to you freely. Let the spirit of condemnation be obliterated from your soul. Then you can be truly free. God’s love explodes in your heart and flows out and beyond your limitations.
Your spirit soars high.
Love until it hurts. Even those who hate you.
As your Savior did for you. Do unto others.
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. (John 15:18-19)
I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
