The hunger and the thirst

WHERE does the deep hunger come from? The deep thirst?

How many have carried a heavy load for years?

How many hearts burn with anger, not even knowing why?

Others drown in an emptiness that never seems to end.

We’ve all been there at one time or another.

And the pain eases for a while. But then it returns.

The hunger haunts us. The thirst drives us mad.

Now, as we are called to the Master’s table, a new hope arises within us.

An answer to our deepest needs, so ancient, it was planted in the infancy of God.

The divine would come down, become flesh and give his flesh as a ransom for many.

His blood would soak earth and wood to cleanse and cure like never before.

Even the deepest stain, the darkest sin would be washed away forever.

No mind can fathom this completely. No worldly explanation will suffice.

Yet the soul knows. And the heart rejoices.

These are the parts of us that hunger and thirst beyond what the world can provide in food and drink.

The hunger and thirst for peace with our Creator, the God of the living.

Only the Body, only the Blood can satisfy the deepest hunger, the bottomless thirst.

And of him we eat, we drink, the Bread and Blood of eternal life.

. . . . . . .

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

John 6:54-56
