Revolutionary

FOR MANY of us, the world is not how we hoped it would be. For some, God seems absent, since there’s nothing to truly believe in anymore.

We hear talk about tyranny, revolution, economic collapse, and even world war. Some are angry, others afraid. Some act as if there’s nothing to worry about. Through rose colored glasses, they watch the smoke and flames rise high. Optimism is either a delusion or a miracle these days.

Where would Jesus stand if he walked the earth today? Would he want to overthrow the government? Would he shake his fist and cry out for a revolution? The truth is our Lord was the most revolutionary person ever. And he continues to call for overthrowing the powers that be.

Our Lord wants to overthrow the sin, oppression, and senseless suffering in your life. He wants to tear down the atrocities, lies, manipulation – the culture of death and violence – the culture of war, weapons, and aggression – the culture of slavery, drugs, and human trafficking.

He wants to put an end to all that is obscene and profane, all that defiles the true, natural human beauty we are born with. He desires an end to all that worships individuals as gods.

Our Lord wants to bring down the anguish of the downtrodden, the marginalized, the imprisoned, and the poor. He wants to demolish all false pretenses of religion used to consolidate power and control.

All that is lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride… our Lord wants to send it all to hell.

So, he took it down there with him. As the hammer drove the nails through his flesh, all the cruelty of humankind was driven into his holy, innocent body. It stabbed him, it pierced his side.

He died and descended into hell. Instead of separating himself from us, he let himself be separated from the Father, something utterly unbearable for the Son. He spilled his blood for all human atrocity as we are the perpetrators of these things.

Out of love and obedience he took it upon himself to destroy the ultimate oppression which is death. He went into the darkness that resides in all of us to consume it and set us free.

All sin ends with Christ. In the resurrection, his victory is confirmed. He will come again one day. He is the Lord our God.

Do you see the revolution? It occurs first on a spiritual level, as lives and souls are transformed. The works of Satan are cast off from us.

God desires that nobody goes to hell. But some may choose to go there. We see this all around us in real time.

The Lord liberates us from the desire to worship the idols of power, vanity, and control. Even the worst transgressors can repent and come home to the Father.

The revolution is coming to pass. We may not see it clearly, here and now. But as things grow darker, the light of Christ will shine with even more brilliance as hungry souls draw near.

And all oppression will end with his final victory, upon Christ’s glorious return.

As for now, we prepare. We wait in joyful hope. We fight in his name, for his honor and for heaven above. We fight as our Lord Jesus did, by giving, forgiving, serving, and loving.

We fight because we are free.

. . . . . . .

“If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32
