Tough faith isn’t lazy or fearful

IS YOUR FAITH weak or strong? Do you want it to be stronger? Want it to be tough?

Sometimes we say, no thank you Lord. My faith is just fine the way it is. You get comfortable, or you’re afraid.

Excessive comfort and fear are faith killers. These certainly are not times to let your faith wither and die.

You might think, well, my life is acceptable right now. So my faith is just fine.

Or you might think, my life is a disaster right now. So my faith can’t help me much.

Or, I’ve tried already too many times, there’s no hope for me.

I say, reject this.

Shake off the temptation to be stagnant.

Dig deeper. Reach higher. You’ve only begun to try.

The only ceiling is heaven itself.

How do I know this? I know this due to countless testimonies of everyday men, women, and children who demonstrated astounding levels of faith.

They weren’t superheroes or super gifted. They simply made a choice.

They chose to believe. And they kept moving forward in their belief. Somehow, either consciously or intuitively, they knew the hand of God was upon them.

And it made all the difference.

Are you stuck in the slow lane of belief? Maybe you’ve pulled off to the side of the road.

Break out of your routine.

It doesn’t have to be a radical change in action. But consider a radical change of heart. Let it be a revolution of the spirit.

Every human being has a great potential for faith. A simple person living in a grass hut can have faith that shakes mountains. A disabled child can have faith stronger than the greatest saints ever.

You have the same potential in you. The Spirit of God has no limits.

Maybe you feel anxious or overwhelmed. Things seem so far out of control. We wish life was neat and easy. We face huge battles. We struggle with our own self doubt and fragility.

And anguish arises from the depths inside us. It’s as if your soul cries out to say, “Only God can help me!”

How many times have we ignored this? But if you want to, you can obey this cry.

Align your heart, mind, and effort behind it. And a powerful faith will take shape — a tough faith that doesn’t get lazy or scared.

When you have to fight, fight hard. When you have to work, be tireless. When you have to wait, remain vigilant and faithful. And when you have to give in, give it all up to the Lord.

Lean into it. Gain courage.

Only God can help me… that’s the secret. It’s the answer to what I’ve been seeking all these years. It’s the key to spiritual toughness.

And you realize the hand of God is upon you.

You will make mistakes. You will feel foolish and clumsy. You might worry. Nothing will be perfect.

But as your decision to seek God gains strength, so does your faith.

Nothing extraordinary is required. You don’t have to see visions in the sky. Just turn your heart and mind to face the Lord.

It’s a place of profound security. A place where your soul can rest.

You will witness the hand of God at work in your life. In some moments you’re actively involved. In many more, you simply watch in amazement.

And there is no doubt. You see the difference. You live it. God’s goodness never goes unnoticed for long. 

So resist the temptation. Don’t let your faith fall asleep.

Awaken Jesus from his slumber and tell him, “Yes Lord. Here I am. Save me!”

And he will rebuke the storm. His hand will be upon you. And he will lead you into a new place, more spacious than ever.

Then you will join with others. You will sing joyously about the Good News that brought grace home to you.

And many more will come to believe and turn to the Lord.

Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
