WHEN YOU are lost, how do you find your way? You need a map or a compass to guide you.
Early on, Adam and Eve decided they didn’t need any guidance. They wanted to do things completely on their own. This led to a rupture in their relationship with God.
He gave them the blueprint for a joyful, happy life, but they ignored his plan.
I remember for years wandering in the desert with no direction, trying to shut out God. This took me to dark places where I became unrecognizable to myself.
I became someone I was never meant to be.
In today’s world it’s all about “me”. We’ve become frighteningly self-centered. All that matters is my pain, my needs, my desires, my rights… me, me, me.
So we all place ourselves at the center of the universe, but we all can’t be at the center, right?
The end result is chaos, conflict, and pain.
Who hasn’t seen this happen at a personal, community, national, or global level? When I put my desires ahead of everyone else’s, someone suffers.
The typical excuse says, “If I’m not hurting anyone, then it’s okay.” Or I blatantly stomp on others to get to the top.
I cut in line. I want mine first.
I feed the ravenous beast.
The worst offense of this kind is to use the name of God to justify my selfish motives.
Meanwhile, Jesus turns all this completely upside-down.
He says to love God first with all your heart, soul, and mind.
The Lord’s guidance keeps you on the right path. It opens up wide streams of blessings.
His teaching lets you be your authentic you, the person you were meant to be.
Many times we stray from the path. We become a distorted or disfigured version of ourselves.
We twist our lives into complicated knots. We come up with all kinds of excuses to stay tangled up.
And it hurts tremendously.
But when you find the Way, the Truth and the Life you recover the original plan.
You hold the map of life in your hands again.
The Spirit of God unties the knots. You aren’t shackled and bound anymore.
You walk free.
God’s faithfulness is constant and immovable. He returns you to yourself and to Him.
You receive all the attention and love of the Creator.
In a miraculous sense, you become the center of the universe.
In heaven’s economy, there is more than enough for everyone. God gives all his love to all his children, 100%.
When you realize this, deep down, it’s impossible to stay the same. His presence transforms you.
Distortion and confusion cannot last long when there is healing, peace, and trust.
The real you is meant to live and love in a spacious place of grace.
In the end, only God can satisfy our deep need and restlessness.
He leads you out of the wilderness into sweet pastures filled with the fragrance of his mercy.
And the reaction to his love is to give love in return.
It’s the most beautiful relationship ever.
The love between the Creator and his child.
A fragile, lonely human soul in intimate communion with all that is Divine.
Then, transformed by God’s love, one fragile human soul goes and finds another lonely soul to love.
And the good harvest produces a hundred, thousand fold turning to praise and worship the Lord our God.
. . . . . . .
He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
This is the greatest and the first commandment.
The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:37-40
