DO SOMETHING!

DURING times of crisis, the most common reaction is fear. Uncertainty begets fear. And fear begets violence.

So, they try to goad us, divide us, drive us into reacting and overreacting. Witch hunts and anger seethe on all sides. Rage and hate course through their veins.

Some carry crosses with slogans plastered all over them. Others drool over the chance to silence faith in God.

It’s a mesmerizing mix of distraction and destruction.

Chaos leads the day.

When Jesus hung on the cross, the sky grew dark, and it was chaos. They shouted at and mocked him.

“Do something!” they taunted.

And now, today, that cynical cry reaches our ears and tempts our hearts.

Come down from the cross. Save yourself. Lash out.

The devil tempts us with an either-or proposition. You are for us or against us.

Choose.

Don’t fall into the trap. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Extremists hatch plans on both sides of the aisle. And the devil whips us into a bloodthirsty frenzy.

But remember, no leader, party, cause, or slogan will save your soul.

Only the Spirit shows us a clear way out.

He shows us the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The Lord Jesus did not lift a finger in resistance against the powers of his age. But he did not cower, he did not fail. He stood tall on the cross. He did something.

He gave us life.

So yes, do something. Choose.

Because after all the rhetoric, all the accusations, all the oppression, and the lack of mercy… multitudes continue to suffer unnoticed.

Go to them and you will find God.

Make their cause be your campaign. If you’re looking for a fight for justice, there’s plenty to do there. You could live your life ten times over and never reach the end of the need.

Get to know them by name. The names of their children. Share their pain and suffering. And offer healing and providence.

And if you are one of those suffering, cry out. Cry out to God Almighty that his justice comes pouring down upon us.

For when judgement comes, it will not look at how you voted or how many times you spoke out on social media.

Instead, judgement will ask how much you gave. How much you helped. How close you got to those in need.

So yes, do something.

Witness the crucifixion of Jesus.

Proclaim the resurrection of Christ.

Be part of God’s restorative justice on earth.

Choose.

Give life.

For Jesus said…

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Luke 4:18-19
