Are you spiritually tenacious?

DETERMINATION. Persistence. Tenacity.

These are important traits to develop for everyday life as easy solutions usually don’t last long. But what does it mean to be spiritually tenacious?

We can look at the honey badger as an example. This tough little beast has super thick skin that can even resist spears and arrows. Plus, the badger skin is loose, so it’s hard to get a solid grip on the critter. Badgers are incredibly resilient creatures too. They’ve been known to survive multiple cobra bites, and even if the venom knocks them out, they sleep it off and get up again. One single badger can fight off multiple lions and hyenas. And perhaps the badger’s most important characteristic is its tirelessness.

Many of us face extremely tough situations these days. So get tenacious about it.

Even if your tribulations launch spears at you, let your faith protect you like a tough, resistant skin. Even flaming arrow tips can’t penetrate the thick shield of faith.

Even if the jaws of the demon wrap around you, wiggle out of it, and regroup. Then invoke the Spirit to drive back the evil one.

Even if you are being assaulted from many angles, trust that God gives you the ability and agility to face each one down. Be nimble, be quick. Trust in the Lord to fill the gaps.

Even if the venom of the enemy knocks you out for a bit, sleep it off and get back up again. Return to the fight as today’s failure doesn’t mean the battle is lost. The final victory is the Lord’s.

And for those long, drawn out struggles, the ones that last for years, stay determined. Intercede for the freedom and redemption of others. Keep reaching out. Even if months have passed by, extend the chance to reconnect. And pray diligently.

It is never, ever too late to show you care.

It is never, ever too late to show mercy.

It is never, ever too late to love.

And even if you feel tempted to lose hope, be persistent. Keep trying. Keep insisting before God’s throne in heaven.

Even if you don’t speak a word about it to anyone, let the fire of the Spirit burn in your heart. Yearn deeply for deliverance.

The Lord is with you if you trust him. For your own personal struggles, the only way you can lose is if you give up. Cling tight to God. Let him carry you to victory. Let his Spirit conquer your heart.

Be the determined grandparent, the vigilant mom or dad, the faithful spouse, the loyal child, the steadfast sibling, the trusted friend. Be iron and steel for those you love.

Then rest. Nourish yourself with the Word of God. Rest in the arms of Christ our Lord. Let him restore you and comfort you.

Then get back out there to give, love, and serve. Be tenacious.

The follower of Jesus is made to carry their cross until the end. For God’s glory. For love.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
