WE’VE all heard the prayer, “Lord, increase my faith!”
Have you ever said this? Did you know Jesus shows us, very clearly, how to increase our faith?
Before we see how it works, let’s start here…
But you are not in the flesh, you are in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. (Romans 8:9a)
That’s absolutely incredible. The SPIRIT IN YOU — all thanks to Jesus. How conscious am I of this?
In Romans 8:38, Paul continues…
For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That’s a rock solid guarantee. Heavenly. Eternal.
Still, like a warranty, it depends if I choose to use it. If I buy a car, and it breaks down, all I have to do is claim the warranty. The warranty of the Spirit never expires. God never refuses his children.
What does this have to do with having more faith? Simple. You already have all you need. Remember, the Spirit dwells within you. Even if it’s just a tiny bit of him, that’s more than enough.
Do you hesitate to live fully in the Spirit of God? Maybe you undervalue his worth.
The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. (Matthew 13:45-46).
HE SOLD EVERYTHING. What happens if I do this? I have nothing left.
Only Spirit. Only God.
My faith doesn’t grow. Instead, I get rid of things that block the full expression of the Spirit.
And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. (Matthew 19:29).
It’s crystal clear. Lose everything – even your life – for the Lord. Then the Spirit that dwells in you will be fully manifested.
Creation itself waits for this!
For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19).
SO JUST GET RID OF IT. This doesn’t mean you should abandon your family. It means you have the right perspective. You live without fear.
Stop using your family or possessions as a reason to deny Christ in your life. Stop relying on the illusion of a secure future to give you peace in your heart.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21).
Let the Spirit rule over you. Live and love courageously. Let the Word burn into your heart. The Spirit is in you. The worries of this world limit the full expression of the Spirit.
Let the things of this world go.
BE NOT AFRAID.
If worldly things give me peace and confidence, then I am not worthy of Christ.
Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. (Matthew 10:38).
When the apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith, he responded that all they need is faith like a tiny mustard seed.
The Spirit is your core. Everything else is just noise and confusion. The seed of faith has everything in it to make a transformation. It’s tiny, compact, and 100% full of potential.
You don’t need the latest gadget or a giant nest egg. Are you more worried about resting in comfort or serving God’s Kingdom? Christ’s words are clear.
“Follow me.”
Nothing of this world goes with you when you meet your Father in heaven. Riches do not guarantee that your children will be fine. Get rid of the non-essential in your life and accumulate treasure in heaven. Give this inheritance to your children as well.
Be prepared for the struggle of your life. Grit your teeth, and don’t give the enemy an inch. Your flesh will not want to give this up. You will desire to go back to your comfort zone. Resist and hack away at this relentlessly. There will be the gouging of eyes and the gnashing of teeth. Jesus said so.
If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. (Matthew 5:29).
This process strengthens your faith as the Spirit has more room to work. Let the worries of the world fall away from you and SET THE SPIRIT FREE.
I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
